Q. What
does Uplink do?
A. Uplink™ is a dedicated wireless communications
solution for security monitoring that reports all alarms, status
and messages generated by security systems. Uplink does this by
providing a secure, dedicated, cellular link that transmits
alarms to virtually any Alarm Receiving Center or Monitoring
Service. |
Q. I have
a security system now. Does Uplink replace my current system?
A. Uplink works with your existing system. In fact some
of our partners like GE Security and Brinks have integrated
Uplink into their systems as a customer option. Think of Uplink
as a specialized cell phone that is connected to your existing
security system. When an alarm, or status message, is triggered
on your security system, the Uplink device transmits the signal
to your monitoring service over the Uplink cellular network. |
Q. I have
an alarm monitoring service; do I have to change to a different
service with Uplink?
A. You should be able to stay with your existing service.
Uplink is not a monitoring service. We provide a secure
dedicated cellular link from your alarm system to the monitoring
service. If the phone lines are down, or even if you don't have
phone service, the alarm will be delivered over the Uplink
cellular network to your monitoring service. |
Q. How do
I know if Uplink will work with my existing alarm system?
A. Some security products force you to use their
monitoring service with their security systems. At Uplink we
believe in customer choice and interoperability, and that
philosophy is what sets Uplink apart. Uplink works with
virtually all alarm panels and monitoring services. To be
absolutely certain, contact your system provider or call Uplink
customer service first. |
Q. How
long does it take to install Uplink?
A. Your alarm dealer can typically install uplink and
have you operational in fewer than 30 minutes. |
Q. Will
Uplink work in my mountain cabin?
A. CellemetryXG provides the Uplink network and is the
most expansive, terrestrial-based, wireless, telemetry, data
network in the Americas. Couple this network with Uplink
transceivers, the most powerful transmitters in the industry,
and you see how we can say; "Beach house to mountain cabin,
Maine to Mexico we've got you covered." |
Q. I am
considering using my cell phone at home without a telephone
line. Can I use Uplink?
A. A telephone line is not required with Uplink. Alarm
messages are delivered to your monitoring service over the
dedicated cellular link. If you do have a phone line the alarm
is delivered over both the cellular link and the telephone line.
The Uplink link can act as a primary or secondary line. Remember
that Uplink can also deliver the alarm to your pager, cell phone
or email. |
Q. Will
Uplink work with VOIP?
A. More businesses and consumers are moving toward
wireless-only phone service and broadband services providing
Voice Over IP (VoIP) for their primary communications service.
Because Uplink leverages machine-to-machine (M2M) technology,
any data signal or message can be instantly relayed over
Numerex's industry leading CellemetryXG™ wireless data network
for immediate action. |
Q. I have
a wireless security system now. Why would I need Uplink?
A. A wireless security system usually refers to window,
door and motion sensors that are wirelessly connected to a
control panel. The control panel typically communicates with the
monitoring service over telephone lines. With Uplink, that same
control panel communicates with the monitoring service over
dedicated cellular links. If you keep the phone line it is
backed up with cellular. If you don't have a phone line the
cellular link provides the communications. |
